Erect shrub, about 1.0 x 1.3o m, openly branched, short definite trunk; growing under shade of Quercus and Cupressus associated to O. pahaeacantha. Flower bright yellow at anthesis truning dark yellow to orange, 8 cm long by 8-10 cm wide; ovary club shaped, 5.5-6.0 cm long by 2.0-3.0 cm wide at upper part, with 3 spiralated series of areoloes; areoles 1.2-1.7 cm apart, circular, 2-3 mm diam, with brownish wool and glochids yellow to dark brown, short; leaves present in upper areoles, conical to subulate, 7-10 mm long; external segments of perianth green with yellow edges, entire, deltoid to broadly obovate, apex mucronate, 8-32 mm long by 8-22 mm wide; inner segments bright yellow, spatulate to obovate, undulate, 30-40 mm long by 14-25 mm wide; filaments white with green base, the lower ones 12 mm long; anthers 2-2.5 mm long, style white-yellow, 18 mm long by 6 mm wide; stigma 10 lobes, 7-9 mm long, light green. Fruit steril, persistent, parasited by wasp, no seed formed
