Not var. esculenta; K.A. Wilson (Jour. Arn. Arb. 41:57) treats a similar plant as var. aquatilis Hasskaral. Rhizomes present; roots with slight fleshy thickenings; ht. to 2 m; upper part of spathe orange-yellow, partially rolled even when open. Reproducing vigorously, apparently solely by asexual means.
