In clearing (old pasture) in post oak - yaupon woodland on upper edge of valley of perennial stream, between slopes underlain by Eocene sands, on soils mapped as deep, well drained, slightly acid fine sandy loam Udertic Paleustalfs (Axtell Series). Area lightly burned during Bastrop Complex Wildfire of September 2011. Associates included Chamaecrista fasciculata, Croton capitatus, Eragrostis secundiflora, Helenium amarum, Heterotheca pilosa, H. subaxillaris, Hypericum drummondii, Ilex vomitoria, Lechea mucronata, Paspalum notatum, Quercus stellata, Rudbeckia hirta, Schizachyrium scoparium, Senna obtusifolia, Smilax bona-nox, Verbena halei, Zanthoxylum clava-herculis.
