Habitat: In grassland on shallow to very shallow, well-drained, calcareous gravelly soils (Boracho-Espy association) on outwash plain in broad valley. Associates included Aster ericoides, Astragalus mollissimus, Bouteloua gracilis, Chamaesyce indivisa, Chenopodium sp., Cirsium ochrocentrum, Croton spp., Dalea candida, Desmanthus cooleyi, Ditaxis neomexicana, Dyschoriste crenulata, Eriogonum havardii, Hoffmannseggia glauca, Kallstroemia parviflora, Lotus oroboides, Mentzelia sp., Paronychia jamesii, Physalis sp., Physaria fendleri, Sida abutifolia, Solanum elaeagnifolium, Sphaeralcea angustifolia, S. coccinea, Sporobolus / Muhlenbergia spp., Talinum aurantiacum, Teucrium laciniatum, Zinnia grandiflora. Occasional.
Reproductive Condition: flowering=early
