In shade of narrow strip of hackberry - palm woodland between two irrigated ag fields on soils mapped as deep, well drained, calcareous, moderately alkaline clay and clay loam Mollisols (Laredo and Olmito series) on level agricultural landscape of Rio Grande delta. Associates included Chloris ciliata, Cissus incisa, Clematis drummondii, Cynodon dactylon, Melilotus indicus, Mimosa cf. latidens, Oenothera speciosa, Salvia coccinea.
